Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design Re: Drought resistant hedges 2Aug 17, 2014 3:21 pm We're about to plant a Murraya hedge that's suppose to be ok. The one we planted last year has been fit by the frost a bit though Jem's Custom build - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=58630 Re: Drought resistant hedges 3Aug 19, 2014 11:36 pm I live in Melbourne, I know the summers are different but I have quite a few English box hedges and they have never been hand watered and survive quite well. I trimmed them one December and then a 4 week heatwave hit and there was a lot of die off, they looked terrible for about three months but recovered quite nicely. I like a low hedge so I cutoff about 1/3 of their height with secateurs each May and then trim in November. Re: Drought resistant hedges 5Aug 21, 2014 4:51 pm Something native will cope well in drought conditions; I've got some bottle brushes (callistemons) I've made into a hedge and they work a treat (no watering whatsoever needed). Also maybe a grevillea would work. Just be aware that there are stacks of different types of both grevilleas and callistemons and some of them can get quite large. |
