Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Jan 17, 2014 4:55 pm Hi, **please help, i'm not handy!** I have a colourbond fence that is in full sun most of the day and very late into the afternoon. On summer days the fence is hot by 9am. My little veg patch seems to be suffering. I water it every morning but the tomato plants are browning off on the ends. I assume they are just getting baked next to the fence. My idea for this fence line is to cover the hot and reflective colourbond particularly in the middle section where no trees will be covering it. Hopefully this will protect the veges from burning and create a better view. I like the look of bamboo fence panels but given the termite risk and the area I am in this is not an option. Next best idea is a vine such as star jasmine. I'm pretty sure I need to create a climbing structure for this to creep on. So what is a cost effective and simple way to do this? I've heard of a few options like wire mesh, wire strands, prefabricated trellis, rio... Not many handy skills here so really looking for a dummies guide and the best option for my scenario. Thanks for your help. Re: Trellis structure to grow vine on colourbond fence 2Jan 17, 2014 6:16 pm www.biggreenleaf.com.au It's a wire mesh system that simply hooks onto colourbond fencing. Might be worth a try. Re: Trellis structure to grow vine on colourbond fence 3Jan 20, 2014 8:34 am Thanks for that, had a look and it's a perfect solution for someone without handy skills. It's an expensive solution though... will try to find a similar alternative that's cheaper. Re: Trellis structure to grow vine on colourbond fence 4Sep 02, 2014 4:49 am How about something like this - supanet plastic wire trellis - never seen it myself, but it sounds like it might work: http://www.bunnings.com.au/trellis-plastic-whites-wires-900mmx10m-supa-net-15509_p3040740 Says here it is 'Rigid enough to use as a trellis on walls and fences' http://whitesgroup.com.au/Products/WhitesWirescatalogue/tabid/123/ProdID/76/Supa-Net.aspx There is no reason why building contract reconciliation cannot be done prior to handover, if the builder won't do it get someone to do it for you.
