Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Jan 14, 2014 11:43 pm Hi everyone, Just about to get a shade sail installed in our backyard. We are hoping that it wont ruin the aesthetics of the back yard but we are on the gold coast and it is just too sunny for the kids to play in the yard of a morning most of the year. Had always visualised a white shade sail, as the house is white, fence is white (with a bit of Dulux Sparticus) and there are pale sandstone tiles around the pool and lots of plants. To keep with that colour scheme I thought white would be best - but the shade guy is trying to talk us out of it... he says that the white gets too dirty with bat poo/bird poo etc and looks bad within a year or so. I think it is the rainbow shade fabric that they use. Anyone else have a white shade sail? How have you found it? Thanks and look forward to hearing from you. Regards, Belinda Reno in Southport - QLD. So much work to do and timeline has already been pushed back!!! Still To Do - security system, security screens, tree removal (cocus palms), internal works, lighting, ensuite. Re: White Shade Sails - anyone have one - do they get too di 2Feb 25, 2014 12:36 pm We're looking at this too - and would like white. How'd you go ? Re: White Shade Sails - anyone have one - do they get too di 3Feb 25, 2014 1:32 pm We used a light colour called 'sand'. The manufacturer we used didn't make a true white and now that I think about it, I've never seen a white shade sail. Anyway, this 'Sand' was the lightest colour they make and we haven't had any trouble with it looking dirty. Couple of things though: Keep it tensioned and tilted so the water runs off and it dries quickly. If you have trees overhanging or near the shade sail, some plant matter will accumulate. In this scenario you really should go for a darker colour. Re: White Shade Sails - anyone have one - do they get too di 4Feb 26, 2014 10:33 am offshore We used a light colour called 'sand'. Can you tell me rough size and cost ? Re: White Shade Sails - anyone have one - do they get too di 5Feb 26, 2014 11:24 am Yeah you use turnbuckles to adjust the tension (Google for an example). The sail itself wasn't expensive. Couple of hundred for a made to measure sail. Ordered online from a manufacturer in wa. Re: White Shade Sails - anyone have one - do they get too di 6Oct 12, 2014 1:43 pm Hi, A couple of other things to note with shade sails: You will need to keep the tension in shade sail, so that it doesn’t sag. Make sure that you have the right structural support for the shade sail. As the sail has wind load and rain load it needs to have sufficient structural support that are designed to take the loads. Finally make sure that the shade sail is maintained and kept clean. The geometry, or angle of the shade sail will help to keep it clean with rainwater washing most build up off. Do not let dirt, leaf litter and bird droppings build up on the shade sail fabric. These should be removed by light sponging with warm water or with a soft head broom. Good Luck. Ask the council if there is a chance of getting build over easement exemption. Sometimes easements are unused and 24cm is not all that much. Good luck. And yes any builder… 2 13769 It will be neat but you won't have much freeboard. At least they are not weep holes. Are you in a high intensity rainfall region? The regulatory slope is only required… 3 8264 |
