Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Jan 07, 2014 9:37 pm Hi am after some suggestions for paths for rear garden. eg from laundry to clothes line. I am wanting some thing that will look nice not like a concrete path. Some thing that looks natural. I have small kid and at our current rental they have crushed rock every where and the boys just love moving it every where else. So probably want to stay clear of that. But then there is the thing in the back of my mind with the csiro strongly advising that you should have concrete paths around your house for water run off to protect your house slab. Hmm what to do ? Re: suggestions on path matterilas 2Jan 08, 2014 3:01 pm My understanding is that it's important to keep the moisture levels in the soil next to your house's slab constant so, for example, having lots of concrete paths on one side of the house and heavily watered garden beds on the other would be a bad idea. Some people take that to mean that you should have a concrete apron of paths around the whole house but I don't believe that's necessary. With respect to what you could do for your path a combination of stepping stones and pebbles is a possibility, although that is going to have the same "child related interference" problems as crushed rock Another possibility would be exposed aggregate concrete which is a bit nicer looking than plain concrete (but a bit exy) Also paving or using left over bricks as pavers might be a possibility?
