Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Dec 27, 2013 9:49 am Hi, Has anyone had experience in selectively spraying kikuyu out of Zoysia lawn - Empire or Nara. What spray did you use? Did it hurt the Zoysia at all? How successfully did it kill or suppress kikuyu? We've seen information about using Monument Liquid to spray kikuyu out of couch. In the Monument Liqid brochure (we downloaded the pdf file by googling monument liquid syngenta) Zoysia is listed in the "established Turf" that this product can be used on to "suppress" Kikuyu. We would love to hear from anyone who can answer our questions! Re: Spray Kikuyu out of Zoysia Lawn? 2Dec 27, 2013 2:13 pm no experience but good luck. you could try painting roundup on the kik with a small paintbrush if there is not too much. I've done this in couch but in the end the kik won. If it's only a small area I'd just keep pulling it out by hand until eventually it can't re-grow. I've done that with couch infestations into my EZ and it's worked every time. Though my EZ is 3" long and very thick so nothing else can grow through. Don't even need to weed it now. Re: Spray Kikuyu out of Zoysia Lawn? 6Mar 13, 2014 2:14 pm The Kikuyu at our place invaded from the left and has moved across to the right and is now covering half of our lawn. What i've done, is dug a trench down the middle (to prevent further infestation of the zoysia), so that all right side is healthy zoysia, and left is a mix of kikuyu and zoysia. Essentially, i've conceeded the left side, and have now gone down the path of spraying the left with zero to kill off the kikuyu, with the intention to put down some new zoysia roll on once the kikuyu is gone. I'm in the process of doing this, and the kikuyu is in the process of dying. Hopefully this works! Re: Spray Kikuyu out of Zoysia Lawn? 7Aug 24, 2015 3:41 pm Just want to let others know how we've got on. We're in southern SA near the coast - warmer than Melbourne but cooler than Sydney. We ended up replanting our back lawn (approx 300sqm) with Nara Zoysia early March 2014. Our old lawn was mostly Kikuyu. We sprayed it out over the previous 6 months and also took away the top few cms of soil with most of the old roots using our front end loader bucket (yes, we're on a farm) We topped up the area with fresh soil. So we did get rid the Kikuyu first but we realize that some still might come back as it had got into the adjacent garden, etc. We got advice about using Monument Liquid to spray Kikuyu out of Nara from a lawn mowing contractor in Sydney. We have sprayed our Nara lawn with Monument a couple of times. The Nara wasn't harmed and we haven't seen any Kikuyu grow back yet. the leaves that are now underground go yellow, the tips that poke through photosynthesise and have chlorophyll, same reason they grow rhubarb in the dark. 5 4858 4 14278 Unless there is something in special conditions the builder does not have to give you timeline.
