Hi all
We are currently in the construction stage of building our new home. I have just read our estate's landscape plan and it says that we will be having Tristaniopsis LUSCIOUS trees (common name - water gum) planted as our nature strip tree. The DA is currently in council.
My husband is stressing as the plant profile says that it grows from 7 m to 12 m high.
Has anyone had these trees planted and had any issues such as invading roots, leaves in gutters etc that we need to be aware about?
Our front yard is west facing - so I guess that it will provide some lovely shade in the heat of summer (we are in the outer western Sydney area - yesterday it was 42 degrees) - but will lawn grow over the top? (We have been considering Sapphire buffalo turf) .... and more importantly will the roots undermine the low retaining walls and driveways.... As front yards are so small these days I just worry that these big trees will take over and drop leaves into gutters. (we are trying to build a very low maintenance home) ... and we don't want the nature strip tree to be the bane of our life.
The street behind us are having Jacaranda trees - which as a tree are beautiful - however we have one in the driveway of our current home- and for anyone who has lived with the slippery driveways and carpets of purple flowers over their cars, and the various bits they drop during the year .... they will know what I mean.....
I would appreciate some forumites feedback on this ... calm us down that this tree is not going to ruin our life
Cheers and Merry Christmas to all
Sandy
