Read through lots of good info regarding turf options but a lot of it's Perth based and not a lot Melbourne specific, so I've registered and here's my 1st question...
We're in Melbourne and about to get turf laid. Went to have a look at some varieties and liked Kikuyu best underfoot (much nicer than the Sir Walter Buffulo on display), however having read up a bit, are less convinved about that choice. Today I read were someone was suggesting Kikuyu for Melb conditions. We have dogs that think anywhere in the yard is their toilet, and need to tow boat and camper trailer out of shed occasionly during the year. Most of the yard gets full sun for the majority of the day, a section in front of the house is shaded for half the day (hours depend on time of the year). What soil preperation is recommended? Our land is 'fill' (black and gooey when wet) and currently 'paddock grass' that grows very well. We removed the existing grass from a section that we had to do by hand (pool in the way for the man with the digger to get at) and it's full of worms. Is that a good sign?
Any suggestions or thoughts?
