Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Nov 03, 2013 7:54 pm Hi everyone... I had some "Sir Walter" laid back in January and to be honest over winter my lawn care has been well pretty much non-existent.....basically just leaving it to it's own devices and mulch mowing as needed. It's looking pretty brown and dry (and crunchy to walk on). I realize that Sir Walter is a summer grass & goes dormant over winter, but was curious as to whether the lawn going so brown is normal. I've given it a big dose a molasses & Seasol along with some wetting agent this weekend to hopefully give it a kickstart but would like to know if there's anything else I should be doing?? I live in Perth and hadn't actually realized that the sprinkler ban had ended so am switching them back on this week as well. Sorry about no pics but I couldn't figure out how to include them. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance. It's possible it's just frost burnt (not that Perth gets much frost) and needs a lot of TLC to come back. I'd get the water up to it, seasol it again in a fortnight or so (this is prime lawn growing time) and if you aren't seeing new green shoots/some improvement by two or three weeks then it's time to worry. My lawn (Palmetto, wheatbelt WA) goes crunchy from frost, crispy from heat and dry from surprisingly not enough water It bounces back though, it mightn't be super pretty as it does, but it does. It's a cousin of Sir Walter (both buffalo) and once it's established the roots do a reasonable job of jumping back to life. the leaves that are now underground go yellow, the tips that poke through photosynthesise and have chlorophyll, same reason they grow rhubarb in the dark. 5 4878 Thanks mate. Yeah good points! Leaning towards Option 3 to get a bit extra space in the cabinets but not going too crazy high (and expensive).
