Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Oct 16, 2013 8:57 pm Hello All I recently started a building thread covering the tail end of our house build. Once that is finished we will be moving very quickly onto our landscaping plans. I thought I would start a thread in landscaping to document our journey and to document my thoughts and to seek feedback. So our block is located in SEQ just outside of north Brisbane. We have a corner block of 6000 sqm of land (1.5 acres). The block is flat(ish) with a 1% fall on the block, so well flat. The corner block comes with a massive long nature strip, currently turfed and service in part as horse trail, especially on the weekends. The block and nature strip has no trees. Once upon a time there was an old silky oak on our block, unfortunately it was hit by lighting many years ago and died. All our neighbours across the road from us have a seasonal creek which runs through their blocks, this doesn’t come near our block, but we do have ducks visit in the mornings and evenings. So here are the Site Plans http://i1018.photobucket.com/albums/af306/kiakhan/null_zpsfa9e86fb.jpg The House http://i1018.photobucket.com/albums/af306/kiakhan/null_zpsc11ac85a.jpg The start of a concept drawing for decking/breezeway Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The front of the house is the narrow end of the breeze way. Apart from the house we have a 6 by 18 meter shed located in the far North West corner of our block. We have also cut a 60 meter circular drive which is currently gravelled with road base and will probably stay that way for a while. We also have to have our own HSTP (home sewage treatment plant.) My current obsessions in terms of landscaping are fencing, feature trees and plants. So a few things I do have one my wish list are Feature Trees Qld bottle tree http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brachychiton_rupestris But I'm thinking I would like at least two more so maybe Jacaranda? Vegtable garden - I'm a mad keen into growing vegies so this will be top of the list once we settle in. Also top of the list will be chooks. I'm aiming for most to all our veg to be harvested from our own vegie garden. Fruit trees, maybe pecan, avocado, citrus, mulberry, Carambola (aka star fruit) I would also like to plant out our fencing line along the curve of the road to provide privacy and since it is such a long "frontage" I would like something, quick growing and low maintance. The fencing is going to be hardwood posts and wire fencing. I plan of having some of the planting encroach onto the nature strip, as I would like to have the planting appear more organic and flowing. Also minimise some of the mowing Does that make sense Anyway suggestions for planting out the fence line would be great, my list consists of Grevillea and that's about it. I'm also thinking about cutting out a track/path for the horse trail and creating a native nature strip with a mix of native grasses... as featured in this thread viewtopic.php?f=19&t=11343 Also any suggests of placement of the vegie garden would be good. It cannot go in the north east corner of our block this is where the HSTP sprinklers is located. Ok must go, laptop is about to go flat. It pays to show your State in your avatar. Retaining wall regulations… 5 7845 Hi, you've probably already resolved this, however, Commbank will probably pay the funds to you after you send evidence the work is done regardless the change in the quotes. 1 35191 |
