I'm an Aussie living in Brazil and I am not having much luck with my palm trees. The climate here is similar to Darwin I think. I don't know what kind they are - here they just call them Palmeiras but i rekon that might just mean palm. They have been in for about a year and have turned bad in the last 6 months. They are now even worse since the photos - the tips of the yellow leaves are turning black. Can anyone tell me how to get them back to the dark green they should be? Folks around here like to cut the turf away from the base and fill around the tree with white stones but i didn't want to do that mainly because everyone else does but if it's important i guess i could do that. There was some white ants present when i transplanted the palms and i used a solution which was supposed to kill them. I hope that's not the problem. Anyway, Pics 1-3 show the yellowing leaves, Pic 4 shows some black stuff on the base of the tree and Pic 5 shows the soil that surrounds it - really clayish, but i seem to remember that's the kind of soil that came from (i did surround it with nice soil when i planted it.) Pic 6 is how they looked when i first planted them. Please help if you can, Graham.
