Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Sep 03, 2013 11:47 pm Hi, I am after some advise please. We have a corner lot and are wanting a rendered block wall along our boundary, which is on a slight slope so it will need to be a retainjng wall. Our builder has quoted an astronomical price for the job and I want to get other quotes. I have spoken to another builder who informed me that we would need to contact a draftsperson to draw up a plan and that we would need approval before the wall could be built, but when I queried this with our builder they said we don't need approval. I am a bit unsure of who to contact now to get a quote, a builder or a landscaper? I am worried that I already have been given conflicting information and don't want to be taken for a ride. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Re: Retaining/boundary wall 2Sep 04, 2013 5:54 am A block retaining wall really needs to be designed properly, by an Engineer (they take serious loads see: http://www.anewhouse.com.au/2012/05/und ... ing-walls/). I see a lot of walls that haven't been properly designed either broken or leaning. If it's more than 900mm tall it will need council approval. some councils require approval for lower walls that are on a boundary. The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! Re: Retaining/boundary wall 4Sep 04, 2013 1:37 pm You might find that your current builder (if you agree for them to build the wall) will include the plans for the wall in your current House construction DA. Whereas any other builder you choose to engage cannot piggyback on another builder's DA. Hence the need for a separate plan and approval application. Can anyone recommend a good/affordable retaining wall and fence builder that I can get a quote from located in Sydney? 8 45660 Hello, We are about to build and the plans show a part of the exterior wall is being built on top of a limestone retaining wall.
