I live in the beaches on top of hill sides. I'm going to post some pictures as I gave it a little prune and working towards a vase shape won in the middle. Re: Fruit Tree Varieties 7Aug 16, 2013 4:32 pm Oops sorry - and the poor tree - weighed down for ever with so many lemons. I've never seen a better one. Re: Fruit Tree Varieties 8Aug 16, 2013 6:11 pm I think you might be too close to the fence; previously had a Redhevan, and the branches spread nearly 2m all around after a few years, with vase shaped pruning to 4 leaders. It had delicious fruit, and was very prolific. But as it was in country NSW, it had good chilling; not sure Sydney has enough. Re: Fruit Tree Varieties 9Aug 19, 2013 8:03 pm Thanks PHL. What is enough chilling for a redhaven? I bought this tree from my local nursey and asked them will this grow in our area. Thay said yes. I live in the hills where temps get down to 6 to 8 degrees. Although, it has been a warm winter. What happens if it doesn't get enough chilling? Thanks Re: Fruit Tree Varieties 10Aug 21, 2013 8:18 pm Where I was, it was regularly below 0C overnight. The Hills area may be cold enough; where I am is several deg C warmer, so I'm mo limited in what I can grow. If not enough, I gather less fruit, and perhaps not as good taste, but will still better I'm sure than store bought. Hello. I just bought a few acres in Habana, Mackay, and my horses seem to love hanging around under this tree. I would like to name the paddock after this tree. Can… 0 9528 Fellow Perth dweller. Looks like pruns nigra. It's a dark leaf flowering plum. Doesn't get massive and is easily trimmed deciduous tree. Very popular in small gardens in Perth 7 2759 |
