Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Aug 05, 2013 2:50 pm Hi All, Just looking for some advice/help with retaining walls on my site for a newly built house. I have bought a block that has a fall of about 3 mtrs back to front. I am looking to retain either side of my property and the front. (The walls will need to be nearly 1.8 metres tall on each side) I have had a couple of quotes to do the whole lot with either concrete or timber with the quotes working out to be about 70-80k. I want to try and do this myself, and wondering if anyone had any advice about engineering and buying materials etc? I am in victoria. Any advice would be appreciated. Cheers ! Generally with timber walls the posts will be 1.2m apart and as deep as it is high and probably around 250mm - 300mm in diameter set in concrete. Horizontals will be round logs or sleepers. Blue metal and agline used behind the wall. Concrete walls will use a lot of concrete and steel a lot involved, if you don't know what your doing I wouldn't try it if not confident. Another option is concrete stack blocks. Although blocks may be costly most sit on road base and only require the fill and drainage material behind the wall compacted. Good Luck Thank you again Simeon.. I will call my certifier for that. Have a good day 4 5188 Thanks for your reply! All valid points and I agree with you on many of them. I am in QLD, any recommendations on a construction lawyer would be helpful 3 2637 Thanks for the insights, that makes perfect sense, and yeah, I will be leaning on the experience of the excavator operator entirely. 6 16147 |
