Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Jul 23, 2013 10:41 am Hi everyone! We have land settlement today! very exciting... We're currently in contract stage with Dennis Family Homes. Just trying to think ahead to be as organised as possible! We will be doing our own landscaping after we move in... problem is we have two dogs, who need grass! Anybody have any advice as to how to go about laying turf before handover? is it possible with tradies everywhere etc? If we do it after handover, how do we go about keeping the dogs off the grass, and will the grass die if they're let on it? We put "Dog Rocks" in their water at the moment, so the grass doesn't die from their urine Any advice would be much appreciated! The soil will need to cleared/screened for rubble etc and prepared throughly. Not something that can be easily done with tradies everywhere.. My suggestion would be to lay after handover once you have figured out your garden design (beds, paths, walks, etc.) Get everything planned out.. But by doing this it means you have to fence off the new turf areas for a couple of weeks. Or lay turf in sections ie turf the back and keep the dogs in the front then vica versa. Or you can just let the dogs all over it and patch up the bits of turf that don't take. Re: Turf before or after handover - with dogs! 3Jul 24, 2013 10:19 am BeartrixKiddo is righto - the tradies will trash it if you install whilst they are there. However - you might be able to get a chump on it prior to hand over, say 2/3 weeks before hand. You'll find that in the last few weeks, majority of the bigger trades would have finished, so second fix sparkys/plumbers/tilers etc is all that will be there. that way when you have handover, you should be right with some nice grass as soon as you get your keys! That's what i was thinking if we did it say 2 or so weeks prior! i just don't want the dogs to wreck it and i'd feel bad blocking them off to only half the yard at a time with just dirt I've read on a few turf suppler websites they say don't tread on it for 2 weeks.. then some say 6-8 weeks!
