Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Jul 15, 2013 3:12 pm Hi everyone, I have a recon limestone garden bed with vegies, herbs and a 'Sublime' tree in it. It has been in for about 3 years and planted into a vegie mix from landscape suppliers. After a few months it was yellowing a bit so I wrongly thought that maybe the soil was too alkaline and that maybe the limestone wall was leaching and added powdered sulphur (without testing the soil). It still didn't perk up, so I added a bit more and a bit more.... Well I have since got a soil testing kit, and low and behold, my soil is now between 5 - 5.5. I have been adding a few handfuls of Dolomite lime every few months now for nearly a year and the 'Sublime' still looks really ill - small leaves, yellow leaves, dropping leaves. Is there any way of fixing this problem that I have got myself into. I have been looking online at a few sites and came across "Garden Rant" - Stop liming you soil!! Says that Dolomite lime is made up of Calcium and Magnesium and that if you are giving too much of either one of these to your soil that you can run into more problems. Apparently too much Magnesium can cause major compaction as my soil is a little bit boggy. This is my dilemma - do I stop with the Dolomite lime or not? Should I just use Seaweed or do I need to somehow test whether I have too much Magnesium or Calcium?? I am so confused. Any advice would be welcomed. Dig down to your footings and let the wall dry out.
