Mikeg12 - we did a similar treatment off the Alfresco...you might like to take a look at the finished project. Re: Backyard Thread - Pergola Up! 10Apr 19, 2012 1:50 pm At the moment, we are doing blueboard across the back fence, with double stud below the noggins (so they will be at approx every 200/300 centres) to support the soil load. all remaining raised garden beds were intending on being block work with rendered finish.. however this whole corner area still may be revised ... might be ditching the whole raised garden bed in the corner for some kind of comfy corner seat built it.. need some inspiration Re: Backyard Thread - Pergola Up! 11Apr 19, 2012 2:03 pm Hi Mikeg12, You can see from this picture why I'm interested in what you have done ... we have a 3 metre stormwater easement along the fence so will have to have shadecloth so it's not a "permanent structure" and the soil level needs to be raised to meet the paving ... my poor DH keeps scratching his head and wondering where to start ... comfy seats sounds good for your area as it's off the alfresco Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ For info on our build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43093 Built the McLaren by Dechellis - slab down 22 Feb - handover 30 Aug 2011 - and gardens finished 9 Dec 2012!! Re: Backyard Thread - Pergola Up! 12Apr 20, 2012 10:10 am i have a pic on my other computer that i will upload this arvo, its a fantastic designed alfresco/courtyard area with the comfy seat that we are looking for.. as for the design, mine is 3m as well to the rear fence... have you looked into vergola design of somesort? can provide both hard top and open roof which is prob what your council area is after.. it is a bit pricey, the best quote i got was $7500, (5.6m long x 2.8m high)... has compared to $14k which another company offered! Re: Backyard Thread - Pergola Up! 13Apr 20, 2012 10:12 am A Vergola would be great but that's a lot of money .... still it's an option! Re: Backyard Thread - Pergola Up! 14Apr 27, 2012 3:20 pm ok people need some advice here, my builder has installed the blue board, but i am a little concerned with some of the fixings. as per pic below, you can see that he has not fixed the bottom of the blueboard directly in line with the noggin. vertically he has fixed to all stud work no worries, but i am concerned about this top row of boards that are now directly fixed. it flex/move when i apply pressure on it. Will this be susceptible to movement/cracking? I may need to remove the blueboard, add another row of noggins on top of this one to ensure a bottom fixing. or will the blueboard be fine like this? (as the builder has stated). because then i think sometimes when the noggins are fixed staggered then there is always going to be a bit of board that is not directly fixed? Landscape Design & Construction http://cherub.squarespace.com/ Re: Backyard Thread - Pergola Up! 18May 11, 2012 5:00 pm Ok all good, got the builder to come back, fix up the blue board and now i have noggins behind all joints.. next question I've noticed in your 'Debra's' blog they used"Dulux Medium Texture Render Paint in 'Aumbry'". From the photos I see its was just a straight on render paint directly to the blueboard? Is the product specifically designed to fix directly to blueboard? Because i was very keen to do this myself but have just been informed by a couple of painters that the texture paint is supposed to be applied after the wall had render applied to it? Doesnt really make sense, because thats how I saw the "Texture Render' - as in a roll on product that fixes directly to blueboard?. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
