Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Jun 24, 2013 9:31 pm I have covered my garden beds with a combination mix of sugar/pea/lucerne mulch but the birds continually spread it all over the paths and lawn.....digging deep amongst my bulbs. What can I do to stop them digging? Re: Straw Mulch and birds 2Jun 25, 2013 8:17 pm Yeah its a pain. Preferably you need a border of plants along the path edges to stop the mulch getting chucked on it. But thats not possible overnight so some simple black plastic netting, like the stuff used in fishing nets thats very thin. You can't really see it once its streched out over the mulch and lightly topped with more straw. Just do this in your prob areas. Re: Straw Mulch and birds 3Jun 27, 2013 7:08 pm Thanks Beatrix..the only problem is I have bulbs everywhere and don't want to stifle them. I guess I will have to put up with the mess and clear daily (birds go all day) then when bulbs need lifting I will dig the straw in and never go near it again.
