Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Jun 07, 2013 1:23 pm Hi everyone We've just had a kit cabin erected in our back garden, which has now motivated me to do some landscaping. Trouble is, I'm time poor what with having a newborn and a 3 year old at all, so I don't have hours to be scouring the internet for ideas. Hoping for some inspiration and advice about what really works and what doesn't. We have kikuyu lawn, the surface is a little uneven in parts, and...well...we need something low maintenance, uncomplicated but attractive. Sorry about the shadows in the photos - it was the best I could do. Just to let you know, if you can't make it out in the photos, we have a wooden deck out the back with a concrete path around the edges. Here are some photos! The first thought for me is to soften the fence and shed, these stand out at the moment, some foliage along the fence would make a big difference. Given that you have young kids you want to keep the lawn area as large as possible and ensure any plants selected are kid friendly. There is plenty that you could do, but budget needs to be considered. Also what you want to achieve with the yard. Do you want any entertainment area? Or will this be the kids domain. I also have young kids, so personally I would try and incorpororate some edible plants and a small veggie patch for the benefit of the kids. Should I excavate and cut all of the dirt to level with the house slab or semi-excavate as per photo above? Both left and right… 0 24832 Thanks very much! And would the landscaper/contractor generally involve the engineer or is that something the client would do? Thanks for your help 2 10007 |
