Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 May 22, 2013 12:50 pm Hello Green Thumbs Seeking some advice regarding white ants as i have recently discovered them in my garden. I first noticed them when i discovered my tree stake was falling off and found the white ants were eating it. Last week i was moving my mulch aside to fix my retic and noticed white ants were in between my mulch eating it away! What needs to be done to eradicate them from my property. Im more concerned with the white ants attacking my plants as my house has been treated (2 years old build). Any advice appreciated, cheers. Re: White Ants in Garden 2May 24, 2013 2:16 pm You need to take action fast. Get in a qualified pest person. Don't try to kill them yourself as they will just move - ie to another spot or to your neighbour. White Ants/termites eat anything - and slabs don't stop them. hopefully your gardens don't go up to the sides of your house and your weep holes are clearly visible ? Re: White Ants in Garden 3Jun 13, 2013 1:17 am Back up a bit people. There are many species of white ants. Most found in gardens are not a threat to homes. Pest controllers will always put the fear of god into people. Scared people spend money. Most white ant species role is as forest floor composters and they have no interest in solid timber structures. They are equally likely to be found in soft black mulches, lawns or waterwise mulches as any other. Though to settle nerves use an insecticide containing "Fipronil". To be really sure, you can also collect a sample and send to the WA Dept of Ag & Food for free identification by an entomologist. Normally sticking some to clear sticky tape and sticking to some white paper is the preferred method. Then via snail mail and you will get a message back via email (because of course you'll write that on the paper ) Looking for advice on whether this variation in tile colour is acceptable.
