Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 May 17, 2013 12:23 pm Hi Guys N Gals, I have a 2000m2 block which is dead flat and grassed. I want to make it all hard stand/parking and am thinking of boxing around the block with sleepers and putting down gravel. I assume I can just place a geotextile over the light (and pretty dead) grass and put the gravel down without having to excavate? I was however worried about drainage when doing this. Should I use channel drains down the sides of the lot (even though it is flat) or french drains or what other solutions do you think? At the end of the block it runs down to a drainage reserve so I will try to direct water this way if I can. The hard stand will be raised 120mm above the surrounding land as I am boxing it in. Do you think it will be sufficient maybe to just drill large holes in the sleepers which are boxing the compacted gravel which will allow water to flow out? As I think the gravel will be self draining a bit anyways. Thank you for your opinions.
