Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 May 13, 2013 4:54 pm Hi All, We are planning to plant a new garden along our fenceline to provide a bit of a screen. My wife wants to form a hedge of grevillea (peaches and cream) and I want to plant a row of miniture citrus trees. The garden bed will probably be about 3 meters wide but could be made wider, and about 20 meters long. I'm just wondering whether these two plants would work ok in the same garden bed? I think we intend planting the grevillea along the fence and then the citrus in front of those. Any thoughts? Re: Grevillea and Citrus in the same garden? 2May 20, 2013 11:34 pm It will mean you never use mainstream gardening methods. So that means, no citrus fertilisers and rubbish like that. Go totally organic. Soil prep will require zeolite, perlite 10-20% organic material and around 5kg of sand a m2 (in clay soils) or 5kg of clay a m2 (in sandy soils). The use of compost teas, molasses, rock minerals/dust, worm wee and most importantly, raw tree lopper mulch, will be used to sustain the plants health to perfection. I have a simliar combination. I also have examples of natives growing in mediums that the books say they can't grow in. They are growing better than anyone could ask for. That's another story. The point of why they can do that is the entire concept of what is achievable from plants by never feeding the plant but instead feeding micro flora and fauna. In doing so will be a great example of how a habitat hedge can assist in getting better fruit with greater yields with less pests. My experience is that citrus will lean away from the fence if it is planted in the shade. 3in1 Supadiverta. Rainwater Harvesting Best Practice using syphonic drainage. The fenceline basically runs north-south and the garden bed will be on the west side. There is a house on the east side but I think it is far enough away so that it won't shade the garden bed.
