Has anyone paid a landscaper to come & do the design work, then left you to do the actual build? Is that even possible? Would be a good idea to ask them if they need to get involved as 20m x 1m is nothing to be sneezed at. Depending on what the retaining wall is supposed to be doing... you would need to dig a large trench for the concrete footings or simply dig holes deep enough for suitably treated wood posts at say 1.5m intervals.
