Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Apr 24, 2013 1:07 pm Just wondering if anyone has had experience in large plantings for rural land. I have 5 acres and I'm wanting a bit of privacy so I need something fast growing and dense to have a more private feel. Our block has NO existing trees! I'm a bit worried about choosing something that wont suit the rural feel but at the same time I don't want natives with the oil in the leaves because I don't want the fire hazard or leaves clogging my gutters. So far I was think of a tree and bush combination around the front border. London plane tree and some sort of hedge.. Do I put the hedge in front of the trees or behind? Re: Rural land privacy planting! 2Apr 24, 2013 11:55 pm We are on 2 acres and have the same problem We will probably e going for an Escalonia hedge facing the road with 6 trees in a row behind it alternating a smaller and larger tree In the back we will do a park like planting of trees. We will be using a grey water system so it will be high in nutrients. Would love to hear everyone elses ideas regarding this. They do grow huge fast but are perfect for screening on a big block if you dont want to go natives. They will tolerate hedging too but we just left our to grow naturally.
