Soil preparation is the biggest. What was done to the soil prior to laying the turf? What fertilisers have been used. Different types can either harm or help a lawn. DH can hardly get a fork in to loosen the soil and we used Jeffries Special soil with all of Fu's additions plus molasses etc etc .... I had the same trouble with my veggie box and have now added heaps of compost to make the soil more friable ...
