I'm hoping someone can provide some advice regarding the pruning of lilly pilly's.
In front of our block on the council nature strip are two lilly pilly's. (Cascade or Lulu variety I think).
The previous owners haven't looked after them very well - in particular the tree on the right - and subsequently they have become quite gnarly/sticky
Would have really liked if the bobcat had accidentally run them both over so we could start again - and because they are owned by council, ripping them out is not an option.
I quite like Lilly Pilly's and would like to bring these back under control. I know that they like a good trim.
My question is, is how aggressively can I prune these two back without damaging the tree? Ultimately I would like them to be about half the height they are now, and for the the tree on the right to have a similar density to the one on the left.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.
