Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Mar 19, 2013 4:32 pm Hi there, using Munn's lawn to sow a new lawn from scratch. This whole area when we moved in last October was full of huge weeds, so I just dug it all up and levelled it again... About 4 weeks ago I put some Munns Arid Smartgrass down (Fescue). Took off well. Am I doing something wrong? I've now oversowed it and covered a fine layer of topsoil on top (with fertiliser)... It's in a shady area but patches all over are growing well, but it's still very patchy. Any tips? The packet of 1kg seed said it would sow 25sqm... this area is alot less than that... http://imageshack.us/g/1/10067103/ Re: Seeding a new lawn 2Mar 19, 2013 9:29 pm I grew Munns seed two years ago in Sept and it came up patchy as well...Now its fine. Did you add anything to the soil before sowing the seed? Id read the thread regarding laying turf as i used the same prinicples as that. Re: Seeding a new lawn 3Mar 19, 2013 11:05 pm yeah i added fertilizer which is what they say to do... although the first time i didn;t cover the seed... is that what im doing wrong? Re: Seeding a new lawn 4Mar 20, 2013 7:11 am Wasn't a great time to seed a lawn in vic the last month. Dry and warm exactly what fescue does not like. Just mist the area a couple of times a day to keep the seed bed moist. Patchy germination could be because of birds eating the seed (exposed) or it germinates then dies because of inconsistant watering. Now is a better time to seed in shady areas, lots of dew and damp soil most of the day. Re: Seeding a new lawn 5Mar 20, 2013 6:57 pm Hmm, it's strange as alot of the grass was covered this time round, and much of the grass looks very healthy and long, only some of them haven't grown well... Munn's was supposed to be 95% germination. I've kept it moist as I'm home most of the time. the leaves that are now underground go yellow, the tips that poke through photosynthesise and have chlorophyll, same reason they grow rhubarb in the dark. 5 4862 A person needs to be licensed to offer financial advice.
