Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Mar 11, 2013 10:33 am we have just finished a large reno and I need to screen a new, long fence outside our window (fence line about 12 metres). The space is narrow, i.e. about 600 deep, as don't want to use up too much side of house access. I don't want to hedge(too formal) and it only has to grow about up to 2.1 metres tall, as we have a lovely view of neighbourhood trees above the fence, so it is just to break up the view of the fence. Our backyard is taking on a semi tropical look, so something in keeping with that (we have Strelitzias, frangipanis, Eumundi Quandong so far. Was thinking of a bamboo that isn't too tall, or maybe Magnolia Kay Parris planted a meter apart with Canna lillies between. Would be nice to have some colour or flowers but not compulsory. Thanks in advance for your suggestions. PS I am in Sydney Re: Screen for a fence- narrow space 2Mar 11, 2013 10:47 am Cascade lilly pillies grow to 2m, nice red blushes of new growth and flowers. Blue bamboo will grow just over 2m, but tends to get a bit damaged if in full sun. Re: Screen for a fence- narrow space 3Mar 11, 2013 5:49 pm A climber would suit such a space well. Just put up some wire mesh or simple light weight fencing wire (for dogs, chooks etc) to the height you want. Star jasmine would keep with the sub tropical feel but if you are screening your fence to enhance the views to native trees then something less glossy like Hardenbergia 'Happy Wanderer' would blend into the background view better. If the view isn't that specfic then a dwalf bouganvillea would look great. dimensions on your original plan are inconsistent and with accurate dimensions (including site plan, upstairs and down) i could make a proper scale drawing with furniture… 3 7497 2 7471 Thanks again for this information. If you do hear anything different, would be great to know 4 8182 |
