Such a bad practice and we see it done by everyone both Gardeners and professionals that should know better. It bodges up plants that have been poorly grown to impress the buyer, not to make a plant better. Trim the foliage back a bit. Give it some shape too. Lighten the top. Then use three stakes place away from the tree around it. Using something like tree tie, hessian, stocking or what ever, tie around the top if all three stakes to make a fence of sorts. Let flop around but never too far This way the stem and roots will strengthen and grow. It's what they have missed their whole lives. Use plenty of bio stimulants instead of fertilisers. Every few years, apply some control release fert as a supplement. Hello. I just bought a few acres in Habana, Mackay, and my horses seem to love hanging around under this tree. I would like to name the paddock after this tree. Can… 0 9528 Fellow Perth dweller. Looks like pruns nigra. It's a dark leaf flowering plum. Doesn't get massive and is easily trimmed deciduous tree.
