Yeah i suppose it looks okay (can you just feel the sarcasm!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() Re: Trees on your Nature Strip 30Apr 16, 2008 7:20 pm I've got a giant elm in my backyard. It's a beautiful tree, but it sends out loooong roots that sprout out in little elms all over the place. I'm forever chopping the things out. I've killed about 30 of them so far and there's another two that are about 3m tall that I need to get rid of.
I also bought a Norwegian Maple on impulse and planted it in the front yard (which is quite small). later I read how their shallow root system was terrible near any sort of paving or drain. It also made them liable to fall down in storms. Eek! In New York State they've now been reclassified as weeds. Have since moved it into a remote spot in the backyard. Not easy picking the right tree for the right spot. Chinese Elm Ulmus parvifolia - One of the tree's major distinctions is its resistance to insect attack - In artificial freezing tests the temperature a which 50% of tissues die was found to be -34 °C - Is a tough landscape tree, hardy enough for use in harsh planting situations such as parking lots, in small planters along streets and in plazas or patios - They are considered a good choice for beginners owing to their high tolerance of pruning - The tree can become invasive Didn't say anything about SUV attack....! Never ceases to amaze me why the first choice by councils for street plants aren't natives...I agree the Manchurian Pear is a prettier tree...but shouldn't councils/developers take the initiative and plant natives.. ![]() mmm....donuts Homer Simpson 1956- Links: Site Costs Ready Reckoner | H1 Addiction Medical Advice | Château TDL: The Backyard Re: Trees on your Nature Strip 36Apr 20, 2008 10:46 pm ![]() By the way, the trees on our nature strip(s) have had some bling added to them... ![]() ![]() ![]() Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com I'm wondering what a site survey includes, and whether I need one in preparation for planning a house on a 3 ha "semi rural" property in SE NSW.
