I understand powerfeed is a liquid fertiliser and seasol a conditioner for a quick take up with the plants. Rock minerals I understand for trace elements, however should I stop the twice a year feed of seamungus? Is there anything different between the two besides seamungus container fertiliser. What I am trying to get at, I understand that ere is no magic bullet in a single product, but I'm just confused as why so many products with some overlapping each other. As you can tell I am new and learning allot over time. Thank you for taking the time to answer Re: New to Gardening - Planted a Washington Navel Tree Need 22Mar 08, 2013 6:57 pm Seasol is a natural growth stimulant and tonic Powerfeed is a liquid compost fortified with low levels of minerals. Liquid fertilisers are more recognised as being the nasty highly soluble, inefficient, artificially coloured, cheap, salty products that go in a watering can and have popular names that have been sold since 1970's (where they should stay). Walk away from such things The organic liquid products are very worth while. Easy to make your own as well. Your garden need not be a sink hole for your wallet. Re: New to Gardening - Planted a Washington Navel Tree Need 23Mar 08, 2013 7:09 pm Seamungus is good but is better applied in lighter amounts more regularly. An exception There are many things listed that I don't use myself. This is because I use more complicated things I make myself but end up paying next to nothing for. Overall there's not really that much there. So many will easily walk into a shop and have an expert recommend bag x of fertiliser and say it'll make all your dreams come true. We've been getting told that by horticulture and agriculture since the end of WW1 when they had to come up with some use for the left over chemicals. You guys always want to get things from garden centres so I list things you'll recognise. The other thing is, as much as I say or recommend for folks to do certain routines, no one ever does. Like checking your retic controller. I say do it 3 or 4 times a year in the hope someone does it once. Now you can do all those things but at least if you do some of them, things will improve. They might not be as good as using all of them but its better than nothing. The rock minerals provides a really good slow release source of trace elements. This is different to seamungus which is an organic based fertiliser. Re: New to Gardening - Planted a Washington Navel Tree Need 24Mar 08, 2013 7:12 pm Each one of the things listed will have a specific purpose to either the cells in the plant, the microbes in the soil, the structure of the roots or the water and resources required to have a productive food crop.
