Apologies for the spelling, ... but do agapanthus grow well around the sunshine coast ?
I'l talking about those green leaf things with the tall blue or white flowers.
I've been looking for plants to go down a west side of the house.

Re: Agapanthus ... ! 2Dec 30, 2012 2:59 pm Agapanthus will grow anywhere!! They are a great plant. Don't buy them though just ask anyone that has them in their garden and they will happily separate them for you as they do require digging up and pulling apart every few years. Then when yours are ready to separate you can pass them along to someone else. If you lived in Adelaide you would be welcome to some of mine Cheers Jo My son and his fiance's build viewtopic.php?f=31&t=66084 24/7 Slabbed 30/7 Framed 05/8 Gutters 08/8 Roof & windows 31/8 gyprock, bricks, cornice 3/9 Lock up 8/11 In Re: Agapanthus ... ! 3Dec 30, 2012 3:11 pm joane Agapanthus will grow anywhere!! They look good in a line - I was thinking alternating colours. Re: Agapanthus ... ! 4Dec 30, 2012 4:13 pm Yes that will look stunning alternating them. I love Aggies as they are very hardy and are so easy to look after! They certainly are considered weeds by many, but it's really only one variety which is a problem. http://www.gardenreviews.com.au/phpBB3/ ... f=8&t=3678 Ed "ECOECO" At 'EcoEco', we design windows, we design the best windows, we do it for you, so that when you’re happy we are happy. Re: Agapanthus ... ! 16Feb 16, 2013 9:39 am Kylie you must be used to the variety with seeds. Never had a problem with them taking over a yard except where people can't be bothered digging up the excess. If you want them gone and dont have the seed type(not the ones I've encountered) you just dig them up. I would also hazard a guess that its the form Kylie mentioned that is banned in so many places because of this. However there are many varieties that dont cause problems. Re: Agapanthus ... ! 17Feb 16, 2013 11:26 am Yeah they can be a bit of a weed problem in Eastern Australia. For some reason they just don't do that in WA. We know of a few plants like that. Many of the expensive PBR varieties don't do that much though. Can't have a copy written plant making someone a heap of money pop up everywhere like a weed Re: Agapanthus ... ! 18Feb 16, 2013 12:43 pm The older varieties are the worlds slowest weed down here. You see the very very odd escapee clump in some national parks but they hardly are going to take over the world. I would be wary though planting non sterile aggies up in the sunshine coast, every thing grows quicker up there including weed seeds. Not to mention why you plant them at all with the huge selection of stunning tropical/sub tropical plants that you can grow that us southerners can't. Aggies are nice enough plants, but really if you had choice why bother. Re: Agapanthus ... ! 19Feb 16, 2013 1:46 pm Because some of us think they are pretty. < runs fast> Just like Rhoeo! < yelled as she hopefully disappears from line of sight/throw of Fu before he throws a spade full of compost at her. I prefer purple/blue/burgundy/red and green plants to yellow flowered ones yes and native ones with these colours. Though I have a goodly collection of grevilleas as well even though there are yellow on the flowers. Re: Agapanthus ... ! 20Feb 16, 2013 4:06 pm There are some lovely blue flowering natives here like dampiera, lechenaultia, native wisteria (a climber), wahlenbergia (not sure if I spelled it right) and the little pincushion flower. For some reason agapanthus has never grown well for us. We compost, water, mulch and I think we probably give them too much tlc! Or we end up with lots of foliage and not many flowers... Shrug..... |
