Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Dec 02, 2012 11:57 am My block has a stormwater easement running along the inside of my rear boundary. The rear boundary is 12.5m and falls about 0.5m across that length. I'm in the Hills Council area (rouse hill). The block is currently undeveloped and I am intending to start construction next year. The existing paling fence at the rear boundary is a little unattractive. I would prefer a cleaner look so would like a fence with a horizontal top and large panels (weathertex rubix or similar). I am thinking of either replacing the fence or putting up a second fence against the existing fence. Due to the fall this would step down in a couple of places and would vary in height from 1.8m to 2.2m which I think is okay by the way I read the fencing rules. I'm also considering putting up a vertical garden as a section of the fence line - approx 3-4m wide mounted on galvanised 100mmx100mm gal steel posts. Something like this system: http://www.livingholmesdesign.com/index.php?q=verti-scape-green-wall-module.html Do you think there would be any issues with this, noting that the fence is at the perimeter of the stormwater easement. To add a bit more interest to the garden (which will be approx 5m x 12.5m), I am thinking of terracing the garden so that the levels will be separated by a 500mm semi-permanent (stacked block) retaining wall. I'd also like to create some ponds, however these would be closer to the house. Again - I'm just not sure what is possible on an easement. I'm hoping that someone here would have a pretty good idea of what is possible and would fit within the rules for easements. If you've done anything clever over easements, I'd love to see photos. The same thing with changing the levels, Although if you have a manhole in your property don't cover it with garden. The main point of the easement is to control people putting buildings over the pipe. The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get !
