Hi there, I'm looking at putting 6 of these along our back fence to act as screening and to beautify the backyard. What is a good price to pay for these plants?
Chris and Marie have them for $22.90 each for 1.3 metres... Where is the best place to find these in Melbourne?

We have these along one fence in our current house. From memory they would have been only 60 - 80cms at the most. Think they were approx $12 - $15 each. It was a few years ago now so my memory is a little hazy. They grew very quickly! I'd say buy them a little smaller (cheaper) and let them grow.
We put some Blood & Bone in the hole before we planted them and that seem to work a treat. In 12mths (not exaggerating) they were over the fence.

I can tell you from experience that the cheaper smaller ones can catch up pretty quick to the bigger ones. I've even seen some of those pitto's as tubestock if you want real cheap. We got a few pitto's and the ones we plonked in during the drought are doing okay but the ones we planted since the rain started and in a garden bed with all the good stuff added to the soil are going really good. If you're looking for value for money I reckon get smaller plants and invest a bit in giving them a good start. I don't know what the perfect combination is though, for example I don't know how long you'd have to wait for an effective screen if you went with tubestock, even though they're heaps cheaper you might not want to wait that long. But definately put some effort into doing some prep not just buying a bigger plant thinking it will get you there faster. Btw there's improved versions of some of them which supposedly grow faster and thicker and so on, I think some are like silver sheen, have you looked at whats available? The improved versions are usually more expensive though I've noticed.
