Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Nov 20, 2012 11:57 am Hi, I'm growing chillies on my balcony, and this unfamiliar plant sprouted in one of the pots. It's clearly not a chilli plant, but I can't seem to identify what it is by using online guides. I'm using potting mix from Bunnings, and have no idea how a foreign seed could have gotten in there, unless it was already in the potting mix, or dropped by a bird. I live in Brisbane, QLD. Re: Unknown Plant Sprouted in Pot on Balcony 3Nov 22, 2012 10:41 am That's a pretty determined looking plant. You might have to post this in a botany forum to find out what it is. I was shocked to see how big the seed was it was growing out of (I dug it up). I can't believe that it was hidden in the potting mix, and that I didn't notice it! I've moved it into its own pot now, and hopefully it does alright on my balcony. If it's still going strong in a couple of weeks, I'll take some more pics and post them here, and hopefully confirm exactly what it is. The seed actually reminded more of a one of those giant blackbean seeds you see in those pods all over the place, but maybe that's just because it was already starting to decompose? Re: Unknown Plant Sprouted in Pot on Balcony 8Nov 23, 2012 1:57 pm It looks so strong and determined, I wouldn't want to cut it down so it's great you've moved it to its own pot.
