Is your soil taking in the water? Stick a finger down into the dirt to the 2nd knuckle. Is it dry? moist? If its dry after watering you might need something for water repellant soil. I searched yesterday for what I used last year and found Fu''top suggestions.- Quote" Using detergents is so bad environmentally, (which we all ultimately pay for in many ways) and also for soil health. Long term use and with some detergents, even short term use will create the very problem many seek to over come and it can be a merry go round of fail and problems. Everytime you want to use a wetting agent, use some zeolite as well Zeolite will aid the passage of water through the soil. Now yes Debco saturaid is a worthwhile purchase but there are many others worth a look too. Eco-Hydrate. Terracottem, grosorb, wetlock. they are great. There is a ripper used in golf courses that is just about a number for a name and I have forgotten the name so a mystery it will remain " End quote I couldn't find saturaid which is what I used last time. I got hold of wettasoil. Not a lot of choices down here. It wouldn't be my first pick. I could smell something like urea in it when I opened the tub. I didnt double check my info b4 heading out and thought ti was on the list and it wasn't. Some of the home hardware stores are supposed to stock saturaid but my local doesn't. I think I bought ti in bunnings last time but it wasn't there either. None of them last as long as they say on the packet but it might just save your lawn during this heatwave. being a new lawn I hope you are watering it like crazy as per the instructions you would have been given. what lawn did you end up with. winter green is not going to cope well with the temps as they are. if the landscapers added in chook manure/their fav brand of lawn starter stuff etc . it might well have greened up the lawn to start with but it wouldn't have done anything to improve the development of roots and to improve that sandy soil I think somewhere in the fu lawn thread is mentions something about monthly for the first few months for the molasses and seasol. Might have even been fortnightly or weekly actually for the first month or two and then dropping down. We got slack after the 6th or so application. But we did a massive amount of soil prep before putting down lawn. getting back into it now The mollasses and seasol are to help boost soil and make it healthy as well as the seasol and power feed being good for the plants. If you didn't have really healthy soil before you put in your plants then there isn't a lot for them to work with so they need you to keep the applications going. As its really hot where you are the lawn and plants will not be too happy anyway. I mnetioned earlier about ours looking a bit worse for wear. We have temps almost as high as perth atm. Most Plants getting a drink every 2 days , daily for those few in pots to stop them drying out and for veggies and a few more delicate things. I'm topping up with more zeolite and wettasoil stuff. I couldn't find the saturaid stuff I used last summer. So am trying a different brand. I did the fruit trees and boundary trees today and will be doing the lawn and main garden beds early this week.
