Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Oct 30, 2012 6:26 pm Can anyone tell me the diffeence between murraya paniculata and Choisya ternata? I'm in Perth and wanted to plant murraya paniculata as a hedge but I've only found one nursery that stocks it and they looked dreadful - straggly and yellow leaves. Another nursery has plenty of healthy looking choisya tenata. Are they a suitable alternative in Perth? Re: Murraya paniculata VS Choisya tenata 2Oct 30, 2012 6:53 pm Wish I could claim expertise in this matter, but the Gardening Australia website seems to indicate it would be fine. They also say it can withstand dry summers when established, which would indicate it's perfect for Perth. Re: Murraya paniculata VS Choisya tenata 3Oct 31, 2012 9:58 am I have both. The murrayas are wonderful during the warmer months with fragrant flowers but do go a little off colour over winter if exposed to the cold. This is Melbourne we are talking about mind you. Where as choisyas are pretty reliable all year round but the flowers are not really fragrant and its a smaller shrub. They do very very well in Melb (better than murrayas) but i have seen them perform badly in the northern parts of Victoria over summer which is roughly the same sort of heat you experience in Perth. I would suggest the nursery plants you saw were poorly maintained rather than the actual species. My murrayas are flowering and looking healthy from the start of oct. |
