Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Oct 29, 2012 9:09 pm Hi All, ive always tried to take hte best care for my grass, occasional seasol + powerfeed treatment, molasses.. this year i havent really watered my lawn all too much.. lately i have because i have found that the blades of grass seem like they are starting to shrivel up a little? it makes the green colour seem to go a greyish. last season when i noticed this i watered the grass well and it went away... lately, its been patchy accross the lawn. i tried to give it a good long soak over a couple of days which seemed to work, but then it would come back. and seems to be appearing in different areas. Am i right in assuming this is a water issue? is the grass not getting enought water? i touched the soil and it seemed to be fairly dry.. im thinking i should buy a product in help soil absorb the soil? i took a few photos but not sure if you can see them very clearly. please help http://s1165.beta.photobucket.com/user/tikelz/media/photo2-1.jpg.html http://s1165.beta.photobucket.com/user/tikelz/media/photo1.jpg.html http://s1165.beta.photobucket.com/user/tikelz/media/photo3-1.jpg.html Re: buffalo grass - lack of water? 2Oct 29, 2012 10:05 pm Yes, we saw that too, only not on such large areas. It looks blue! (Blue grass ) I couldn't attribute it to anything else, so I thought it might be a combination of factors: Poor soil, lack of water and exposure to the harshest full sun. It not only goes blue, but the blades are thinned out too, they look nothing like buffalo. Usually a splash of water gets rid of it quickly. HOWEVER. We have not fertilised our turf yet, so it's high on my list. Maybe it will help longer term ... When was the last time you applied seasol?? Was the grass blue after that too? My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: buffalo grass - lack of water? 3Oct 29, 2012 11:18 pm Yep lack of water. Aerate the areas with a garden fork or manual corer (cyclone do one). Apply water very slowly so it wets the soil profile down say 100-150mm. Could take a while of stop strart watering. Once fully wet apply a wetting agent, liquid ones work well enough on turf. Then water the agent in a little, slowly. If the areas are not to big i would do the above to the lot. Re: buffalo grass - lack of water? 4Oct 30, 2012 8:01 am I will look into purchasing a wetting agent and aerator (or pitchfork) does anyone know where i can purchase Saturaid (wetting agent) in the sydney region? preferabbly the Hills area? I saw a few places online but it costs more for delivery than the actual product. thanks Re: buffalo grass - lack of water? 6Oct 31, 2012 9:10 am Yeah it should be fine. I prefer liquid as its easier to apply and its watered in at the same time. Brunnings do one that works well enough, its avaliable in most big box stores. The wetting agent is only temporary i wouldnt stress about whats the "best". Its just a quick fix to help re wet those dry patches. Wetting agents are more essential with very sandy soils like perth.
