Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Oct 16, 2012 3:05 pm I am after some inspiration or suggestions for the front yard of my house (see picture below). I was wanting to make a garden bed under the 2 windows on the right of the house but I don't want to put in anything that grows too high as I don't want to block out the windows. Some grassy type plants or cordylines? Maybe a hedge along the front, or a box hedge to follow the edge of the driveway? I am after low maintenance. Re: Front garden help/ideas 2Nov 26, 2012 4:30 am You have a great slate to start with. Your windows are low so I wouldn't put anything there that is going to block them out....I need to think on this one. I think the boarder of the grass that meets the driveway is crying out for something vertical. I'll contribute more to this once I've thought about it a bit more. Re: Front garden help/ideas 3Nov 26, 2012 9:37 pm I don't think a box hedge is low maintenance. If you want the formal square look it needs regilar clipping. Even an informal hedge can get to the size where if it's near a path or driveway you need to work at keeping it under control. I suppose if you choose the plants wisely and get the spacing right it would keep maintenance minimal. But if there's a plant that grows to exactly to the right size, and quickly, and tolerates all sorts of conditions, I've yet to find it. Unless you really want a formal look I'd go for something informal, and I agree that it seems to need something vertical. Re: Front garden help/ideas 4Dec 03, 2012 5:13 pm You've got a nice garden. There so much things you can do there. Hmm, I would recommend some landscape. Then have some table where an wooden chairs where you can spend some time together with your family or friends. You can also make your own in-ground fire pits for some heat during night time, but you need to sacrifice those grasses. But there are movable fire pits that are available in market. You can try see some at https://www.buytikitorches.com/store/in ... ry&path=63. Hmmm, I'll add more suggestions here. I will just think for more. Hope this will help. You really got a nice place. ^_^ Re: Front garden help/ideas 5Dec 03, 2012 7:39 pm abbigailyoung You've got a nice garden. There so much things you can do there. I never heard of that one but as I read, this is a silicate minerals that can cause cancer? But I am not referring with tiki torches. I am suggesting fire pits because it is really good for outdoor places. Hope you won't misunderstand me. ^_^ Re: Front garden help/ideas 7Dec 07, 2012 6:11 pm I'm sorry abbigalyoung, I shouldn't of read so fast, its just that your other thread had a link to tikitorches too so I thought you were talking about the same thing again. Haven't you heard of asbestos before now, its been on tv, haven't you seen the stories? Re: Front garden help/ideas 8Dec 07, 2012 6:42 pm JazzyJess, I haven't heard about them. What is the effect it can give to people so that I am aware of this. Re: Front garden help/ideas 9Dec 07, 2012 7:35 pm Instead of trying to remember what I read I found some information http://unsafeproducts.eu/2007/10/12/orn ... n-torches/ but this is somebody else's front yard thread so perhaps if you want to discuss it some more you ought to go back to your own thread where you asked about tiki torches the first time viewtopic.php?f=19&t=61029#p949759.
