Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Sep 27, 2012 7:37 am GDay I am planing to get Sir Walter Buffalo installed on my front yard which is on a slope. The landscaper recommended installing a "Automatic Popup Sprinkler System" for $600. There will be 2 or 3 popup heads to cover 14m x 6.5m area. Questions are: (a) Does Buffalo need much watering? I am happy to water it by manually if I have to water it once a week or so. (b) Is it worth spending $600 for a system? (c) Is this system water the area evenly? Thanks in advance. NiMa Re: Automatic Popup Lawn Sprinkler System 2Oct 02, 2012 8:56 am I don't know about the water needs of grass varieties, but $600 sounds pretty good for a sprinkler system. I installed one myself at our old house and I would happily pay $600 for someone else to do it! If there's no automatic timer included (and at that price, I wouldn't expect there to be), get yourself a simple manual tap timer that you can turn on when needed, and set to turn itself off after however long you want to run it for. Saves a lot of wasted water if/when you forget about the sprinklers... One of these type of things: Re: Automatic Popup Lawn Sprinkler System 3Oct 04, 2012 3:03 pm If it's a simple area to do with popups then I would say yes, for $600. Well worth the time savings while the lawn establishes. My backyard is a difficult shape for popups so I didn't get them but sometimes wonder if I should have. Automatic Popup Lawn Sprinkler System 4Oct 12, 2012 10:07 pm Most definitely. I could not live with out mine at our old house and am just about to install one in the new house. They are fantastic in summer (very hot here with 45 degree days common) so I have it set to come on 3am,fantastic water pressure and minimal loss of water from evaporation. ETA I spent over $800 just on equipment for our back yard in our old house (8 years ago) installed it myself (did need a sparky and plumber) but all up I cost $1200 but was totally worth it. Last Friday, 19 Oct 12 I got Sir Walter Buffalo installed. Also, I asked the Landscaper to install "Automatic Popup Sprinkler System". As you guys also mentioned, it is a good system and really like it. This will save my time in the Summer. Only problem I am facing with this is, I am in a very windy area. Do not know how this will be affective when windy (of course I will have a bit of problem even when I use a hose). Hope for the best. Thanks again for all your inputs.
