Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Sep 21, 2012 8:00 pm I'm trying to get a an idea of how much to budget for turf around our new house. The land area is fairly large and after the house goes on, there will be around 600m2 to turf. We'd like a turf type that grows slowly (but not artificial grass), and as inexpensive as possible. If anyone has any ideas of prices and turf types that could work for us, please share! At the moment I'm going off a general turf price of $10 per m2, but I know there are also expenses involved in the preparations and laying of it, but I have no idea how much this would be. Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated! We also had 600 m2 so it was quite expensive but well worth it. If you use a cheaper grass like kikuyu, maintenance will be painful on such a large area. Turf types and costs 3Sep 21, 2012 9:01 pm Oh and we paid an excavator to bring in a good amount of underlay and spread it with his bobcat. It's really taking off now, been down 5 weeks. Re: Turf types and costs 4Sep 22, 2012 5:32 pm How much did you end up paying for all of it including excavator, underlay and laying, selina? Took him quite a few hours. This was very cheap as we paid cash and the underlay was a third of the price that the landscape supplies place quoted me for the same product, as he got it direct from the quarry. Turf was $6000 laid. Re: Turf types and costs 6Sep 23, 2012 6:52 am You will find that most premium soft leaf buffalos vary between $6 to $9 per m2. We had been quoted $8.80 for supply and lay of sir Walter. Ended up going with Ned Kelly soft leaf which we got for $6m2. Our landscaper then charged $1.20 per m2 to lay it. We are wanting a soft leaf Buffalo as according to my research it's low maintenance and tough in both frost and drought. I think the Palmetto Buffalo is what we'd ideally want, but any cost savers we can get we'll take.
