I always hating posting a question on a forum when I have not contributed much to the community, I feel like a bit of a leech. Hopefully as I get some more experience with gardening I can give some back Ok so I just moved into a new house and I am working on my gardens, I want to try and stick to water wise natives as best I can for any new additions to the property. So far I have planted the following, some Westringia shrubs and Myoporum parvifolium as ground cover in the front rock garden with some Murraya N tubes for a lowish 1.5m hedge in the front and Melaleuca Nesophila tubes for a fence screen down then back. I have some existing shrubs in the front that I would love some help with identifying, pics below: Large Shrub (3m tall) Close up of flower bud Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Wide shot of full shrub Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Smallish 1m shrub not very thick Close up of leaves and flower (didnt get a full shrub shot ... will do) Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Any help appreciated ! Cheers Benny Re: New house - need help identifying some shrubs. 2Aug 28, 2012 3:45 pm Oh an another quick q I plan on spacing the tube stock Murraya Ns about 30cms apart over a 4 meter hedge, looking for 1.5ish height and 900ish wide. Been doing some reading on establishing hedges but they always refer to 200m potted plants which are larger than my tube stock ... I know that I have to clip the plants early and often to promote thick growth, but should I be immediately clipping the tops off the little tubers ? Re: Moved house - please help identifying some shrubs. 3Aug 30, 2012 12:26 am The plant above looks like Magnolia Coco or maybe just the Portwine. Used to be called Michellia. Spacing is not effected by pot size. It's recommended according to the established sizes. The name of the second plant escapes me. I'm tired and my brain hurts. Re: Moved house - please help identifying some shrubs. 4Aug 30, 2012 8:58 am Cheers Mate thanks for the reply, maybe you should drink some Powerfeed... it will help with the sore head. When referring to the pot/tube size I understand that the spacing would not be effected that make sense. I was more confused with whether I should immediately prune the tube stock. The guides that I have read say that you should clip straight after planting however they are all using Pots and not the smaller tube stock. Re: Moved house - please help identifying some shrubs. 6Aug 31, 2012 12:00 am Fair enough Yes trim the tube stock as well. Throw the clippings in the bottom of the hole before planting, or around the top of the soil if clipping after planting. It is the perfect nutrient break down the plant needs or wants. Better than a bag of fertiliser. Joe, it depends on your certifier but we are noticing the ones we deal with are really cracking down.
