Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Aug 27, 2012 5:01 pm Hi all, Can anyone help identify the lavender below? Would it be hardy and ok to plant as a border around our verandah? It’s being sold down the road for $2 a pot, bargain? TIA Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Jem's Custom build - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=58630 Re: Which variety is this? Hardy? Easy to grow? Hardy? Easy to grow? Attractive? 4Aug 29, 2012 10:58 pm it does look very much like a PBR'd variety of the Bee series lavenders. Not certain which one. I can't recall off the top of my head. If it is, the person selling could potentially get themselves in a heap of strife selling them. I feel it is a copy written or PBR variety there. Re: Which variety is this? Hardy? Easy to grow? Would it be a good variety to purchase for a hedging plant? Tried to get a better pic of the flower - although the wind didn't help :s Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Jem's Custom build - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=58630 Re: Which variety is this? Hardy? Easy to grow? Attractive? 6Aug 31, 2012 12:59 am If its not a PBR/copy written variety it might be Avonview which is no longer a PBR variety from what i recall. Just looks a little to pink for avon view though. The whole selling PBR plants without the PBR owners tag is like illegally downloading music. You'll be on the run from the law. Living on the edge. That's how you are going to roll from now on. Yes it will make for a sensational hedge. Of course hedges don't appear that way on their own. You will need some hedge shears and make sure you clip every flush of flower after its finished. They will be show stoppers. Give the clipping a miss and they go messy, woody and short lived. Blue Salvia is also a good cheap alternative and can be far tougher. Re: Which variety is this? Hardy? Easy to grow? Attractive? 7Sep 01, 2012 10:00 am That's french lavendar the flowers are a dead giveaway. Yes they are very hardy, make sure you cut them back hard after flowering so you get nice new growth and not just a woody mess. Re: Which variety is this? Hardy? Easy to grow? Attractive? 8Sep 01, 2012 2:18 pm French lavenders have different foliage. It is one of the stoechas varieties as mentioned above. No doubt to that. Which one? Well lets go with Avonview. Re: Which variety is this? Hardy? Easy to grow? Attractive? 9Sep 01, 2012 2:19 pm The point I make about PBR's is that there are a lot of people selling plants that are copywritten without the owners consent. Another reason to buy from recognised nurseries. Re: Which variety is this? Hardy? Easy to grow? Attractive? 10Sep 04, 2012 8:55 pm Well Iam hoping that's not the case with these plants. I've bought a couple to see how I go with starting a hedge , fingers crossed it looks ok.
