Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Aug 12, 2012 8:08 pm Hi All I am after some suggestions for my front garden. The garden bed in question runs along our lounge room window, so we look at it all the time. The soil is dry due to a largish bamboo tree in the middle of the garden bed. The previous owners had rocks and fish ferns in it (very 70s!). We removed all that, tried for purple and white daisies just for some colour, but even they are struggling. We are in south east Melbourne. The garden bed is half sun with the other half being in shade from the roof eaves and and the bamboo tree. Am I best to remove the tree, replace all the soil and start again? Will anything grow there with the bamboo Really trying to improve the street appeal of our home, so would love any suggestions! Thanks Re: Front garden suggestions 2Aug 14, 2012 5:14 pm I have found that Dietes will grow in the worst soil (like ours, esp in the front yard after the house build - it was like baked clay), and you would have a lot of difficulty killing lomandra (just get a variety without the spikes!). We are also having some success with Hakea and Proteas. Second Time 'Round Re: Front garden suggestions 3Aug 14, 2012 5:31 pm Have you considered a dry creek bed?
