Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Jun 07, 2012 8:21 am Hi guys, We are now into our 7th week post handover and are ready to think about landscaping. Our builder has sloped the earth away from our house but that's all they have done. Unfortunately we have been left with really uneven levels and a rather large frog pond down the entire length of one side of our house. We have had a truck load of full dumped on our front yard from a site scrape in the same estate and will be using this to hopefully level the block this Saturday. We have a little bit of a rise in the front of the block which our neighbours have enhanced by turning it into a retaining wall but we want to just leave it as a gentle slope and plant grass. We live in Wallan and our soil is mostly clay. To grow grass do I need to also put a layer of top soil down or can I spread the grass seed over the fill once it's level? Do you have any tips for me? Anything at all would be useful as we have no idea what we are doing! Lol. Just planting grass seed on the fill is unlikely to give you a good lawn-especially if it is clay! Clay tends to set rock hard in summer, usually cracking and it makes it hard for the roots of the plants to infiltrate-so they often die. Having said that, with appropriate preparation clay soil is full of nutrients and can be really beneficial to the right plants. We have gardened on clay soil in our last 3 builds. Preparation is key! No surprises there. The pipes have obviously been altered and there would be a reason for this.… 3 31230 That was always going to be a challenge and a test of patience. Full marks to your mate. Did you discuss the wet area near the trampoline? 16 17287 You are correct. Just read through all the ncc rules and 75mm is the minimum requirement for me. 4 11111 |
