Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 May 31, 2012 8:30 pm We are starting to complete our landscaping for our new build and am not sure if we are setting our landscaping levels right against the house. Our house... Brick veneer on concrete slab For our path ( steppers in mulch)... Should the dirt level (under the pavers and mulch) be equal with the the bottom of the first course of bricks (between slab and brick) with then the mulch and steppers sitting on that OR should the dirt level be sitting part way up the slab with the finished level of the mulch and steppers be at the bottom of the first course of bricks?? Re: finished level of landscaping against house 2Jun 01, 2012 4:22 pm any help anyone. for those with new builds, what have you done if you have planting or paving beside the house, have you started with your dirt coming up to the bottom of the first course of bricks (that is completely covering the slab first) and then building up from there? or have you started a bit lower with your finished height of planting/paving/ or grass level with the bottom of the first course of bricks? Re: finished level of landscaping against house 3Jun 01, 2012 4:47 pm The critical height is that the Damp Proof Course (DPC) is a couple of bricks above the level of the ground. You can normally see the DPC as a thin layer of mortar in one of the courses of mortar between bricks. Normally the DPC will be 2 courses above the slab. If so keep ground level, or top of mulch, just above the top of the slab. The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get !
