Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 May 10, 2012 11:33 am As the title suggests I need to look for a few tree's, these need to meet the design guidelines of the estate (I get a rebate) For the rear yard I need to have two "large trees in the rear yard should be deciduous, promoting winter solar access, and should be between 8m to 15m high at maturity." I would prefer something closer to the 8m height, that has a small non destructive root system and something that doesn't have any inedable (posionous) fruit that my little kids could eat We need something out the front that grows to 6m but the DW has already decided she's having a Frangipani tree out there The rear yard is North facing so plenty of sun back there Re: Tree Selection - Oran Park (NSW) 2May 10, 2012 12:30 pm Hi dvestate. One of my very favorite deciduous trees would have to be the crepe myrtle (Lagerstroemia). Its a deciduous, vase-shaped tree about 6-8m tall. It has trusses of white, pink, mauve or purple blooms that appear in late summer. The petals are ruffled & look crepe-like. In autumn the green leaves turn yellow, orange or red (depending on the variety) before falling. Unpruned crepe myrtles develop beautifully coloured, smooth, mottled trunks. There is an Australian native crepe myrtle as well (Lagerstroemia archeriana), which grows to around 7m tall and has pinkish mauve flowers. Crepe myrtles tend to have a non-invasive root systems. Their berries are not considered edible, however, they don't appear to be toxic either. "Whoever says sunshine brings happiness has never danced in the rain!"
