Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Apr 26, 2012 9:08 pm I have been doing some research into soakwells. Thanks to this forum (Fu Manchu ) and other areas it seems like the drainage cells (ausdrain, atlantis etc.) are the way to go - for strength and ease of installing even for a complete noob like me. So I went and had a look at some today in preparation ( was at Reece's) Now I have a few questions on what they were suggesting I have 9 downpipes which need doing - I was thinking of one cell each They will be under pavers and grass - will mostly be pedestrian only - but maybe a bobcat once or twice shifting some sand from the backgarden before its landscaped but thats all. They were selling the drainage cells as 3 * 3 parts for standard or 4 * 4 for heavy duty 3 * 3 means 3 long sides with 3 braces ( the 2 ends and one in the middle ) So in effect the cell doesn't have a base. So for anyone who has experience in installing these... My first question - Not having the base is OK ? Not needed ? I thought it would take away some of the strength 2nd question - should I still use some blue metal on the bottom and a little around the sides ? People have suggested it is not needed with these. 3rd question - They sold prepack versions which were 30 dollars extra - the only difference was that the cloth was included. Now I can by the cloth separately for much cheaper - if I bought the cloth by the roll - does it need to be fitted exactly around the cell in a specific way ( how ?) or can I just wrap it around the top and edges (in one piece) and pack it tight with the sand ? Thanks for any advice on this - I don't want to have to dig the thing up later Cheers, ScottyB Re: Drainage Cells 3Apr 30, 2012 4:13 pm 1. If the top of the cell less than 300 from ground level i wouldn't like to run a bob cat under them. 2. I would still put 50mm of Bluestone base. 3. Wrapping them yourself should be OK as long as you overlap the geotextile by at least 150 mm at joins it should be fine. Brian The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! Cheers ScottyB Hi HomeOne, I'm in the midst of landscaping a cat run down the side of my house, and the recent rains have me wondering if I need to install some sort of drainage. I've… 0 12212 2 5811 I would find out how deep your clay base is and depending on the depth install a cut off drain which is more than a normal agi drain. Where the neighbouring walls is… 2 3133 |
