Re: Backyard Thread - Pergola Up! 23Jun 12, 2012 7:02 pm Looks brilliant Mike .....what product have you decided on for render/textured effect? Our Dulux Medium Texture still looks fantastic. Look forward to finished pictures. Its quite a tedious procedure - first stage is obviously joints end edging. Second stage is entire wall to be primed. Third and fourth stage requires 2 skim coats with a trowel of the product. And then finally a textured rendered product on top of that. The first stage requires 5% concrete mix with the compound also ... hopefully no cracking on this one! She'll be solid as a rock! Re: Backyard Thread - Pergola Up! 25Jun 13, 2012 1:02 pm That looks fantastic, the first photos showing how it connects with the top of your house was really useful. Is your pergola roof is tilted so that it can share the house guttering? Cant wait to see pictures of it when its finished! Re: Backyard Thread - Pergola Up! 26Jun 13, 2012 3:11 pm alt0160 That looks fantastic, the first photos showing how it connects with the top of your house was really useful. Yep thats correct, we pitched it back to the main roof to avoid additional storm water pipes being ran, as well now it gives an open feeling rather than having pitched down which would make the area feel smaller. Underside of the pergola at high point is approx 2.8m from the ground, where as if we pitched the other way the underside would have been about 2.4m from the ground. We had some massive down pours last month so overflows in the one gutter seem not to be an issue. (there are 2 existing downpipes either side of the new pergola anyway so it worked out well! Hopefully will get some work done over the next couple of weeks. Re: Backyard Thread - Pergola Up! 27Jun 13, 2012 4:42 pm Brilliant, thanks for the info, that is good to know. I have a couple of narrow spots on the east and west that would benefit from a pergola, being able to share a gutter should make it more do-able. Re: Backyard Thread - Pergola Up! 28Jun 13, 2012 8:32 pm Great thread! Can you please tell me more about the polycarb roofing you chose? What is the cost for it? Looks a lot nicer than laser lite roofing. We want to extend our alfresco like you by 2mts to the fence. Re: Backyard Thread - Pergola Up! 29Jun 13, 2012 11:19 pm Yep sure. Product is called Makrolon polycarbonate - this is where i got it from . http://www.softwoods.com.au/laserlite-makrolon. Came up a treat, nice smooth lines. We went with the platinum colour - let's plenty of light in but holds the heat off well. It's a little bit pricey, having a friend at the supplier helped quite a bit but cost for the roofing was $1400. Including all rubbers seals, aluminum caps and ends. It's 5.6m x 2.5m Re: Backyard Thread - Render Complete 30Jul 09, 2012 11:12 am After realizing I had no trowel skills, i had to get the pros in to do the render. Lucky my mate does rendering so it has all finished off tops! Next stage - BBQ installation and raised garden beds to come!

No our permit drawings or build have no bracing on walls or roofing... The query was never raised nor questioned from 4 quotes that I had done... Re: Backyard Thread - Pergola Up! 34Jul 09, 2012 11:48 am No problem. I "guess" your building surveyor was satisfied that wall sheeting provided adequate bracing.
