But you will need to Render the at least one coat with a acrylic cement render (non Color). Now a question for you. What material did you use to build the frame for the wall. Re: Dulux Acratex render 7Apr 05, 2012 2:13 pm Ok - so you might need to explain a bit on "But you will need to Render the at least one coat with a acrylic cement render (non Color)" . Am I correct in assuming that you usually do 2 coats of render – one is acrylic cement render and the last one is Acratex? Obviously I'm not so spec'ed up on the exact process. The frame for the back wall is galv. steel which DH will cover with blueboard this weekend. I think in your case one coat should be enough. Once this dries really good, then you add the colored render on top. You will also need to consider a jointing compound for the joins in the blue board. Re: Dulux Acratex render 9Apr 05, 2012 2:30 pm B Star please bear with me on this ok - I thought that on blueboard we are supposed to use an acrylic based render only - that's what I understood from the myriad of threads I've been reading. The Acratex is supposed to have some stretch (sorry not a very technical term here ) and not crack as easily as the normal cement render will do on contraction/expansion. If we are doing a first coat of normal cement render then applying the Acreatex on top, isn't that going to go against the idea? RE the jointing compound - we are going to look for a flexible one and tape for strength. As well DH wants to use SS screws to attach the blueboard onto the frame and we are using beading around all edges. Either way do not use normal cement render, ensure it is acrylic cement render for blue board. Its more expensive than regular acrylic render 20 to $30 per bag. This has better fill properties that the acretex. Re: Dulux Acratex render 11Apr 05, 2012 2:59 pm Thanks B Star - it's so good to have experienced people on this forum. Much appreciated. I think he quoted us on using normal cement render as he was saying that we need sand so I would like to forward this info to him and ask him to quote and use the acrylic cement render. The planters are Besser block and the screen blueboard. We've also used it on our bar. Can't tell you what it cost, but it still looks great. Re: Dulux Acratex render 16Apr 08, 2012 9:44 pm professional renders usually like to use unitex. I dont you well get away with sand a cement of blue board. It need to be flexible, and water proof. The acrylic render is better for those two reasons. Re: Dulux Acratex render 17Apr 17, 2012 3:08 pm ok, it seems that there are not many renderers in Perth doing/knowing about the Acrylic Cement Render or the ones doing it are charging quite a lot. I've been quoted for a full Acratex sealant/render/Coventry Coarse 951/Acrashied system over $3K??? Can anybody recommend a renderer in Perth who is decently priced? Footing is cement with aggregate (didn't use rheo).
