Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Mar 29, 2012 7:37 pm Hey guys! Sort of a continuation of this thread: viewtopic.php?f=19&t=55188 Unfortunately I think I have found another square that had the Couch growing in it from the farm. I have taken some photos, it can be hard to make out the Couch because it is the same colour as EZ and the only real difference is the size of the leaf. In the second photo I have tried to highlight the patches of Couch. Its much easier to see in person though. I'm confident that it is Couch and plan to pull it out - though that will be messy:( Secondly, just after some clarification on when to first mow a new lawn. I have been told two things, either after the squares can't be pulled up at the corner or after about 4-6 weeks. It has been 2 weeks and my lawn is well and truly established into the soil, I can't pull it up but it has only been 2 weeks and there are squares which are in bad shape while others are getting quite long. Also, when to mow? 2Mar 30, 2012 2:46 pm Yup it looks like couch, you can try to pull it out just make sure you get every last bit of it. If you aren't sure you can get every speck of root mix up some glyposate as per the label and very carefully only paint the leaves of the couch. Making sure the treated foliage doesn't touch the ez leave while wet. If you aren't confident with any of this ring the turf supplier and get them to sort it out, you bought EZ for a low maintainence lawn and couch is the complete opposite. Re: Is this Couch in my new EZ? Also, when to mow? 3Mar 30, 2012 7:18 pm Thanks for your response BeatrixKiddo. I decided this afternoon to try and pull it out - and yes, definately couch. I removed the majority of it. There were some roots that went too deep that they broke before being pulled. All the stolons/creepers and the leaves were all removed though, I'm relatively happy. I figure if it just pops up again I will just pull it out until eventually the EZ should strangle any further growth. Re: Is this Couch in my new EZ? Also, when to mow? 4Mar 30, 2012 8:27 pm Good one, thats why pulling out couch doesnt really work well. It will come back but it will be interesting to see if ez out competes the couch. One way to give ez the leg up is mow it high so it shades out the couch and kills it. Forgot to mention with your new lawn you can mow as soon as you cant pull it up. Just be careful around the delicate parts. And dont take off more than a third of the leaf especially while its young. A person needs to be licensed to offer financial advice.
